Palm. Solitary stems, 0.3­2 (­3.5) m tall (Grayum, 1997).

Ovoid fruits, 1.5 cm long. Black when mature.

Southeasst of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and extreme west of Panama (Grayum, 1997).

In Costa Rica:

Very wet forests, 0­1400 m; Atlantic watershed, Pacific watershed in the Guanacastemountain range, Carara, and Turrubares, . (Grayum, 1997).

In the Area de Conservación Guanacaste:

In submontane tropical rainforests (600-1500 m) on both watersheds (Espinoza, 1998).
