I. Identification:

Tree up to 30 m tall (Croat 1978). Evergreen.

Flower:

Inflorescence 3-7 cm long, 1-3 flowers per inflorescence. The flowers are apetalous (without petals) and maroon, numerous pale yellow stamens (Croat 1978).

Fruit:

The fruits are elipsoide capsules. They have 4 valves. Densely prbescent (Croat 1978). The fruits are mahogany colored. The seeds are approximately 2 cm long. They are grey when mature. There are 1-3 seeds per fruit.

Leaves:

The leaves are oblanceolate and have sinuate margins. They are simple opposite, approximately 4-8 cm long. The upper surface is dark green and the under surface is light green. The petiole is cilindrical.
