About this app

This application consists of taking a geological tour of the Santa Elena peninsula for educational and tourist purposes.

This application consists of taking a geological tour of Bolaños Island for educational and geotouristic purposes, so that the user can navigate admiring incredible and wonderful landscapes, while learning about the geological heritage of northern Costa Rica.

Geology is the science that studies rocks, from the point of view of composition, origin and processes that affect them before, during and after their formation.

The northwest of Costa Rica presents rocks of various origins, with ages ranging from about 170 million years (Middle Jurassic) to today (Quaternary). These tours focus on the Guanacaste Conservation Area, including sites such as the Santa Elena peninsula, Bolaños Island, the Murcielago archipelago, Santa Elena Bay, among others. Almost all of these territories are declared World Heritage Sites (UNESCO, 1999, id N ° 928).

In this region, the geological aspects represent a main element of the landscape, on which the flora and fauna are sustained, being of use for projects in various areas of interest such as education, tourism, outreach and awareness of the importance of national parks. .

The area does not have many sources of work, the main economic activity is fishing, therefore, the importance of the development of other activities such as geotourism, will provide direct and indirect jobs to the nearby inhabitants, which will promote the development of the economy and will provide cultural and historical recreation to visitors, so it represents a source of rescue of the heritage values of Costa Rica, from the geological point of view.
